Module 10 Reflection: Using "Bricks" for Current/Future Technology Standards

It was interesting to analyze a brick for my school district, specifically as it pertains to the move to cloud-based technologies. This structured format is very useful for my own teaching practices, however, in that I am constantly finding ways to organize the tools I learn about. Which tools are best benefiting my students and making their thinking visible? Which best curate their work and also allow for formative assessments and feedback? Which technologies best allow for parent communication and sharing student work? These are the sorts of questions I feel could be answered by using a brick to structure where I’ve been and where I’m going.

I consider myself a bit OCD with organization and constantly keeping in mind the instructional needs of my students. Being part of WASC also mandates that I see the zoomed-out picture of our district and school’s goals, as well as our schoolwide learner outcomes, mission and vision statements. I feel I could use a brick for each technology used for the diverse needs in our school. Each area of our school could collaborate with district leaders to create a brick, and then share each with me to incorporate within our WASC action plan, as well as with our school administration to see where technology PD is needed most.

I'm curious to look at our district's technology master plan once again and see all of the areas where a brick could better illustrate where we are and where we view ourselves in future technology endeavors. Using LearningList.com and their outlined process will also ensure we are on the right track, while keeping the interests of all staff and students in mind.

I'm a high school math teacher, but I like to  say that I teach students how to think. Math , like most subjects, can be learned; being able to critically analyze problems of all sorts  is much more important.
